Evgeni Tanov

Evgeni Tanov was born in
Sofia, Bulgaria
in 1977. He began his formal art training at the
Technical
School
of the Arts, graduating in 1996. He then served his country in a mandatory one year enlistment in the Bulgarian Army. After his honorable discharge he attended the Bulgarian National Academy of Art. While there he honed his skills as a wood carver, exhibiting his work at the National Museum of Art in
Sofia
. After graduation Tanov spent the summers of 2002 and 2003 in the
United States
. He moved permanently to the
U.S.
in 2006. The Gilt Complex had the great fortune to hire Tanov on as a Conservator. Peter Crafts, a man with 47 years of gilding experience and a co-founder of the National Gilders Association, has called Evgeni one of the best gilders and conservators of antique frames he has ever seen. During his tenure at The Gilt Complex Tanov has continued to carve magnificent pieces of art from a single block of wood. Jason Crafts, owner of The Gilt Complex, decided to display four of Evgeni’s original carvings in the gallery. The four pieces sold in less than two months. Thanks to a constant demand for his work Tanov continues to carve and produce his art.
